This fifth report in the RECOBIA project's study of the traditional intelligence cycle is dedicated to the issue of dissemination. This report synthesises the findings of our research, and provides an assessment of the inputs provided by European Intelligence professionals via an online survey.

In this report we make the argument that the field of intelligence analysis could learn considerably from the (cognitive) psychology (and vice versa).

This report outlines that intelligence analysis (in psychological terms) is the following :

  • Problem Solving
  • Information Foraging
  • Deductive and Inductive Reasoning
  • Decision Making and Sense-making.

For each of these concepts, relevant models, theories, and frameworks will be described from both perspectives.

This report studies the fourth phase of the intelligence cycle, namely Analysis and Production. The report synthesizes the findings of our research, as well as our interactions with end-users at the RECOBIA workshop that took place in September 2012 in Brussels, Belgium. We take a two-track approach, examining both the human and technological dimensions of intelligence analysis and production, while...

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the RECOBIA newsletter!

The RECOBIA consortium is delighted to send you the first issue of the RECOBIA newsletter.

The objective of the FP7-Funded RECOBIA project is to improve the quality of intelligence analysis. To this end the 10 partners of the consortium will provide an assessment of cognitive biases and define how the cognitive biases affect intelligence analysis. Building on this initial...

You will find attached the minutes & presentations related to the second workshop which was held in Brussels on 20&21 September 2012.

During this workshop the consortium presented first strands of their research in order to collect inputs regarding the management of cognitive biases impacting intelligence analysis. The workshop was divided into three parts: identification of relevant...

This report examines the central step of the intelligence cycle, information processing. Processing may involved any number of separate but interconnected activities whose central objective is to transform the data collected into a format suitable for analysis and dissemination.

This report gives definitions and standard classifications of cognitive biases, and presents two methodologies for classifying cognitive biases. This report also gives an overview of different cycles of the intelligence process, and provides a list of different cognitive biases known to be more likely to occur in standard intelligence cycle.
